Returning starters: Five on offense. Five on defense.
Last year: Three home losses by a touchdown each made the difference last year. Like every other Marin team, Drake
(3-7, 2-5 MCAL) struggled with Novato and Marin Catholic, but the losses to Terra Linda, Tam and Redwood at home by
eight points each shaped their season.
The season ahead: Drake has a new a quarterback. The Pirates hope he answers the team's passing game questions.
Junior Andrew Brown is a mobile QB who is very confident and mature in the pocket. His No. 1 target is senior tight end
Alec Kenilvort, who was a first-team all-MCAL player at that position last season. The offensive line is anchored by senior
guard Colin McKee. The Drake offense is excited for its opening non-league game against league-foe and district rival
Tam. Due to last year's standings, the teams were not scheduled as a league game for 2010 due to the MCAL's weighted
seven-game schedule. Dan Kenilvort believes that his team should be competitive in the first eight games they play (the
final two games are against Marin Catholic and Novato) and pointed to his team's first league game against Redwood as
important. Senior outside linebacker Stephen Kramer was touted as the brains of the defense by his coach. Seniors Ben
Richmond and Jeremey Steele start at middle linebacker while Steele has the speed and versatility to drop back into the
safety position if needed.
The last word: "Being able to throw the ball is important," Kenilvort said. "Also, we need to stay healthy."
