Head Coach: Rich Cotruvo - 13th Season (101-51)
Justin-Siena Football Preview
By JOHN SWARTZ
THE MARIN INDEPENDENT JOURNAL

Head Coach: Rich Cotruvo (13th season)
Returning starters: four offense, three defense.

Last year: The Braves went 9-4 in 2008, and were crowned Division IV NCS champs after doubling up Salesian by a
score of 28-14 last December. They were a veteran laden group led by junior second-team all-league QB Eddie Aguayo,
and senior MCAL lineman of the year Justin Clayton, who is now playing at Washington State. Aside from Clayton, the
Braves also lost running back Marcus Solis, and lineman Guido Murnig from a talented offensive unit. The defense was
also vacated by experienced seniors including defensive back Craig Cybulski and linebackers Dan Pardini and Quin
Stainer. Luckily for Justin-Siena, senior all-league second-team defensive lineman Jeff Dunbar will return to anchor a
young unit.

Keys to success: The school with the smallest student body in the MCAL will need to stay healthy in 2009. The offense
will be led by senior QB Eddie Aguayo who has shown a deft ability to run Justin's Houston split-back veer offense which
relies heavily on the run game. Aguayo is only 5-foot-7, but behind center he is an excellent athlete who can run and
throw the football. Still, he will need young players to step in and fill the void created by key senior departures. The
Braves do return first-team all-league kicker Jordan Grubb to an all-important special teams unit. On defense, the Braves
will need young players to acclimate quickly to the varsity game. Coach Cotruvo says the learning curve will need to be a
short one for his Braves to have success in the MCAL. A difficult non-league schedule includes Sacred Heart and a
league opener at Marin Catholic will mean Justin will have to be on its game early to have hopes of defending their NCS
title.

Last word: "We're the smallest school in the league, so we'll need to stay healthy," coach Cotruvo said. "We have a lot of
guys who will need to step up and fill the spots fast."
